About Lake Butler Hospital
Lake Butler Hospital is a Critical Access Hospital providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient and short-term rehab services, outpatient laboratory, and outpatient radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, and CT Scan) services to Union County and the surrounding counties. We are devoted to providing all members of our community with premier-quality health care in a compassionate and inviting environment.
Lake Butler Hospital also provides outpatient therapy, such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as primary care services at Lake Butler Family & Pediatric Clinic.
Our History
In 1972 Lake Butler Hospital, originally known as Union General Hospital, was first opened to the community as a 27 bed general acute care hospital. The new hospital was constructed with the assistance of Hill-Burton federal funding and originally operated by the Union County Hospital Board of Trustees. The hospital went through a few changes in ownership during its first ten years of operations.
In 1984 Dr. Abdel Moneim Ramadan purchased the hospital by acquiring the stock in Health America of Florida, Inc. for the purpose of starting a hand surgery specialty program.
In 1994 Medlink Management Services, Inc. purchased the hospital (formerly known as Ramadan Hand Institute/Lake Butler Hospital) from Health America of Florida, Inc when Dr. Ramadan retired from practicing hand surgery specialty.
In 2001 the hospital received CMS/Medicare certification as a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital which provided improvements in reimbursement and allowed for the expansion of its inpatient services to include swing bed (short-term rehabilitation) services.
In 2015 the hospital shifted its focus from hand surgery specialty to the expansion of its short term rehabilitation program to better meet the health care needs of the community.
In 2019 the hospital once again met the needs of the community by purchasing and installing a CT scanner and remodeling the facility to accommodate a new CT Suite. This significantly added to the diagnostic capabilities of the Emergency Room.
In 2020 Paula Webb, one of the three founding members of Medlink Management Services, Inc., became the sole shareholder. At that time, Paula's role changed from President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
